The Government Tourist Bureau of Ceylon held many poster competitions to choose the best designs that highlighted the many attractions of the island. C. K. L. Samarasinha who is considered the greatest poster designer of Ceylon, almost always won these awards. One of the best known Ceylon travel posters, Mount Lavinia won the Second Prize in 1948.
